Recent News: Why UPSC and NEET are in the Headlines Together
The Supreme Court of India recently drew direct comparisons between the two exam bodies during hearings regarding major NEET-UG paper leak controversies. [1, 17]
- The Supreme Court’s Directive: The Supreme Court pulled up the NTA, stating that the agency must “learn from UPSC” which has maintained a near-flawless reputation for integrity and institutional security. [1, 17, 18, 19]
- Institutional Memory: The apex court highlighted that the UPSC operates with its own permanent cadre and deep procedural rigour, whereas the NTA relies heavily on outsourcing logistics and private exam center operators, introducing multiple security vulnerabilities. [5, 19]
- Upcoming Structural Reforms: Due to these paper leaks, the Ministry of Education has announced that NEET-UG will transition from its traditional pen-and-paper OMR format into a secure Computer-Based Test (CBT) platform. [20, 21]
